Is Golden Years Ice Cream Parlor a senior citizen hangout? My hunt for a good hotdog took me here.Though GYICP has 36 flavors it is more than an ice cream parlor. GAICP serves burgers, hotdogs, soups and sandwiches. It is a visual delight; Decor stuck in the 50’s. Just think, Happy Days. Though off to a rough start GYICP does not disappoint. Usually not a good sign when the restaurant asks you if you want take out. We did look like a biker and a style conscious indigent so give em a pass, though Fonzie's leather jacket is in the men's room.
My guest had a double cheeseburger, I a “Southern Style Dog,” a chili dog with coleslaw and mustard. Guess what they have Coca-Cola in bottles. It tastes better than in cans. I hear yall, it is not my imagination. My guest had a hard time finishing off the burger and loved every bit of the challenge. I had a Chicago Style hotdog also. Wonderful and impossible to eat without a mess; the bun soaked in juice from fresh tomatoes. Yep finger lickin' good. Bonanza was on tv one visit, the Rifleman the next. I hear tell of a signature dish called the heart attack. Yeah, no. One thing about supporting your local indie businesses is it keeps money in your community longer. Another thing is they often get involved in the community. Check out and like their fb page here. They actively support stuff around town like Arts Day.

So about that name... Not very popular for any brick and mortar you’d go to for fun though I know of bar by the name Golden Years in NYC Brooklyn. The NYC bar had a review for being overpriced and unfriendly. Ha! That reviewer musta been from Huntsville. If you’re looking for the fine art of customer abuse go to Sharlene’s also in Brooklyn and there’s infamous or famous The Original Soupman Restaurant run by the “soup nazi” made famous by Seinfeld. Back to Golden Years, Even the tv show Golden Years, penned by Stephen King starts with an elderly janitor. David Bowie had a hit, Golden Years, there’s that. I also found this nice jazz piece, Pixel- Nothing Beats on an album titled Golden Years.
